      Minutes for Regular Board Meeting of November 14, 2017

Present: Supervisors, Tina McKeever, Rick Anderson; Clerk Doug Schwecke; Treasurer Carla Menssen; Fire Chief Phil Bonin, Commissioner Storlie                                                       . Absent: Deputy Clerk Gale Ring, Supervisor Bruce Martinson

The meeting was called to order by T. McKeever at 7:00 PM.

R. Anderson moved to approve the agenda as presented. T. McKeever seconded. Motion carried.

R. Anderson moved to approve the minutes of Oct. 10, 2017 regular meeting as presented. T. McKeever seconded. Motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report: Treasurer Carla Menssen reported-Receipts for October totaled $2,133.96. Disbursements totaled $30,209.70. The ending checkbook balance, as of Oct. 31, 2017, was $80,111.81, and a Total Balance of $224,993.93. R. Anderson moved to approve the treasurer’s report as presented. T. McKeever seconded. Motion carried.

R. Anderson moved to approve claims for checks #4195-4220 in the amount of $7,606.51. T. McKeever seconded. Motion carried.

The Lodging tax debit slip for August in the amount of $5,806.32, was approved and signed. Treasurer asked for permission to apply for WebBanker inquiry access for our accounts at Grand Marais State Bank, as sometimes the mailed statements can be late in arriving before a meeting. T. McKeever moved to approve the Treasurer, Carla Menssen, to apply for and use WebBanker for inquiries on our accounts at Grand Marais State Bank. R. Anderson seconded. Motion carried.

Fire & Rescue: Phil reported they had a very good turnout for last night’s meeting. They worked on switching equipment from the old brush truck to the new one and installed and organized some new shelving in the fire hall. No calls last month. Everything is on schedule for the transition to PERA. Still looking for a projector for the computer for training classes.

Road and Bridge: Rick reported that the asphalt pile has been cleaned up. Greg Vetter has been scheduled to do some ditching on Sugarloaf and Skou roads next spring. About 2000 yds. of class 5 gravel has been reserved for next year from Curt Robinson’s pit in Finland. R. Anderson moved to send a letter in support of having Cook County lease the maintenance building at the fly ash site, for the County Highway Department, instead of building new. T. McKeever seconded. Motion carried.

Cemetery: nothing

Recreation: The dock has been removed. The Bob Silver Field sign has been repainted and looks very nice.

Maintenance: nothing

Other Business: We have until Dec. 21 to nominate someone to the RAMS board. No action taken at this time.

Commissioner Storlie: The county hwy. dept. needs new maintenance facilities in the Hovland and Tofte areas. They will be bonding to build a new building for Hovland, but not for Tofte at present. They have been considering leasing the maintenance building at the fly as site from MN Power. 4 candidates for the county engineer position will be interviewed this week. Truth-in-Taxation meeting will be Nov. 27, 6 PM. Money for the Gitchi Gammi Trail through Tofte should be available shortly, with work scheduled to start next spring.

Public comments: Rick Anderson had concerns about the County giving any more money for the golf course.

Received  gravel pit CUP renewal
