SCHROEDER TOWNSHIP

        Minutes of Regular Board Meeting of January 08, 2013

Present: Supervisors, Tina McKeever, Roger McKeever, Deb Johnson; Clerk, Doug Schwecke; Treasurer, Alicia Kangas; Fire Chief, Phil Bonin; Asst Clerk, Gale Ring; Commissioner, Bruce Martinson, and residents of Schroeder.

The meeting was called to order by T. McKeever at 7:00PM.

  1. McKeever moved to approve the minutes of 12/11/2012. D. Johnson seconded. Minutes approved.

Treasurer’s Report: Receipts for December totaled $126.16. Disbursements totaled $7500.96. The ending checkbook balance was $8277.37. R. McKeever moved to approve the treasurer’s report. D. Johnson seconded. Treasurer’s Report approved.

  1. McKeever moved to approve checks #2928-2945 in the amount of $5103.38.D. Johnson seconded. Motion passed.

Lodging tax debit slip for $982.38 was approved and signed.

Additionally, R. McKeever made a motion and D. Johnson seconded the motion that the truck replacement fund be used to make the old and new fire truck payments.

Commissioner Martinson: noted that Lake County is working on an ATV ordinance. He recommended that in 6 months Schroeder send letter of support with what the township would like regarding how the two areas could work in conjunction with each other.  Some discussion of proposed wetland management plan and how it might impact Cook County. Paving of the Sawbill Trail as far up as The Grade is on the County’s 5 year plan. Skip Lamb mentioned that the Cramer Rd. could also use further paving and be upgraded to a 10 ton road. Site prep work has started , and the cell tower is on schedule to go up in the spring. Nothing new on the Tofte site.

Fire and Rescue: December was a quiet month. Have just ten members now, and need to keep at that number to qualify for state aid. Recruiting of new members is underway.

Road and Bridge: plenty of snow and ice. The plowing and sanding is working well so far.

Cemetery: No new business. May need to determine ownership of which branch of the Parent family owns four plots above Kenneth and Thomas Parent. No immediate action required.

Recreation: the January 15th report on the Father Baraga Cross project has been completed and turned in. J. Norvell will be moving to Duluth and S Lamb will be continuing in the work on F.Baraga Park project.

Maintenance: no new business. C. Gilbertson is still unable to do housekeeping for the hall. K. Crawford has agreed to continue filling in with necessary clean up. Will polish the town hall floors late February in time for the March township annual meeting.

Other Business: Election judges available for the March 2013 elections: Carol Tveekrem, Jan Dillon, Judy Gregg, Lavonne Anderson, and Gale Ring. R. Mckeever moved to approve all 5 as Election Judges and to the Absentee Ballot Board. D. Johnson seconded. Motion carried.

The Schroeder Township Annual Meeting will be held on March 12, 2013 at 8:00. Voting will be held as before from 5:00 – 8:00 pm. The March Board meeting will be March 11 at 7:00 PM

The Board of Audit will be held following the regular Board meeting on February 12, 2013.

Correspondence: DNR plan for reforestation of the north shore along highway 61. TSSSD election cert., MPCA (soil composting)
