Commissioner Storlie: Not present. Bruce Martinson mentioned that MnDOT was looking to build a new facility in Grand Maris, but no action had been taken yet. Water districts are trying to get legislation passed allowing them to levy taxes for themselves.

Requests for Support were discussed. After many hours of research regarding the legality and proper procedure for handling requests for support (donations), no clear answers have come to light. Kyle Hartnett, MAT attorney, suggested that all 3 townships from Cook County meet with him after the Annual meetings, so all 3 townships could come to the same conclusion. The requests will be brought before the voters at the Annual meeting for their approval or recommendation on each request. Then the Supervisors will look at them in April.

Fire Dept: Phil was not able to attend. Deb Johnson said they had their monthly meeting earlier that evening. We will need authorization from the voters at the Annual meeting to approve a new contract with Tofte for the Rescue Squad. T. McKeever moved to adopt Resolution 2015-01, a resolution to accept a $75 donation from McKeever Well Drilling to go into the Radio Replacement Fund. D. Johnson seconded. Motion carried.

Road and Bridge: The road name signs have been removed from Zeke’s Rd. Discussion on whether to replace them as it is a private road. It being a safety concern with the Fire and Rescue Depts., R. McKeever moved to order new signs to replace those removed. D. Johnson seconded Motion carried. Bill will be watching for problems during the spring thaw process.

Cemetery: Nothing

Recreation: Township can again apply for the Great Race Place grant, used last year to upgrade a picnic table and bench at the park. Suggestions for this year were a token operated telescope at Taconite Harbor, cost of about $4,500 or planters and/or benches for the Welcome Walls. The upgrades at Father Baraga Park will be brought before the voters at the Annual meeting to see if we should pursue grants for various projects.

Maintenance: Adding a public router at the Town Hall was discussed. Tina will pick one up.

Other Business: R. McKeever moved to send a letter of thanks to MnDOT for the nice job of brushing they did along Hwy 61. T. McKeever seconded. Motion carried. Clerk presented what he had found in the files concerning detaching from TSSSD. After some discussion T. McKeever moved to have TSSSD board members, Charlie Muggley and Bruce Martinson, further research our detaching from TSSSD. R. McKeever seconded. Motion carried. R. McKeever moved to approve TSSSD’s request to have Jerry Gervais replace Paul James, who was resigning. T. McKeever seconded. Motion carried. The author of a letter sent to township residents, entitled “Schroeder Township Newsletter”, was asked to refrain from using that title for private letters. He apologized for any confusion over this matter. Dave Betts from Cook Co. Hwy. Dept. is unable to attend our meeting in March or April but could possibly make May or June. Clerk will contact him. Rick Anderson will meet with Gitchi-Gami Trail Assoc. to see if they will allow grooming a section of the trail for snowmobiles. ALCCTO annual meeting will be April 8.
